Does the Bible not state, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?"

It does. Which means that when someone's a dick to you, you don't try to ruin their life. For it is written in the Scriptures: "Love your enemies, and pray for those who curse you."

When both sides do equally shitty things because they think the other side deserves it, then you can't have a rational discussion that achieves anything.

So you're trying to force a non-Christian to live by Christian standards then?

That isn't even slightly what's happening in either of those statements.

Um... I'm not what you would call versed in the bible... or have read it.
But what was the whole 'Sodom and Gomorrah' thing about?

Allee was the one that said they were acting Biblically. I'm not trying to force anyone to do anything, I'm just pointing out that trying to ruin someone's life because they would hypothetically mildly inconvenience a gay couple is pretty excessive, and not Biblically justifiable at all.

No, you read it backwards. The ones "acting Biblically" are the "Christians". Who are acting on "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". The "others" are the ones that this business is acting upon, and thus fulfilling the "as you would have them do unto you". It's a simple cause and effect.

The O'Connors aren't sending hatemail to anyone. They just said they won't cater to a wedding. Walk in customers are fine, by their words. They just won't do weddings.

If you want to do unto others as you would have done to you, I'm guessing you want these folks to start spamming you with hatemail and coercing your boss into firing you.

I would be completely OK with not catering their respective weddings, if the golden rule is all that.

Actually those passages never reference homosexuality in relation to Gomorrah and it's relevance to Sodom is entirely dependent on the interpretation of one character's speech as a lewd double-entendre. It is furthermore in contradiction to he explanation of Sodom and Gomorrah's sin given in the Book of Ezekiel

EDIT:
In Ezekiel Sodom and Gomorrah are said to have been destroyed because of conduct that is essentially the same as the republican party's conduct today "...arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty..."

In India, Hindu 'nationalists' force people of other religions to convert, ransack places of worship and commit various other atrocities in the name of defending the country from religious terrorism (as if it wasn't just that).

This saddens me, and I'd bet someone is rolling in his grave.

Fundamentalists demand people live by a strictly literal interpretation of the bible, but they selectively ignore parts of it, thus making their choice of which bits to strictly and literally enforce completely arbitrary. After all, they're not insisting people don't wear mixed fabrics or eat pork. They pull that one specific bit out of Leviticus and ignore the rest of it (and the Old Testament) for being Jewish.

"It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you [Gentile Christians] with anything beyond the following requirements: You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality." - Acts 15:28-29

not Biblically justifiable at all.

So wait, Christians can't eat meat from an animal that's been strangled?
