What you must realize is that that's probably exactly what he wanted.

Yeah.

But there are things folks shouldn't have to face largely on their own, so... I went for it.

Well, at least you've got the support of everyone except the 2 trolls, one of which seems to have gone away.

I don't recall the upper forums being like this, when I still was visiting them...
Well, we've grown much since then...

Ditto that. It was usually innocuous engineering discussions about hydraulic flow and Z-levels. Okay, there was the mermaid farming thing, but that was so ludicrously over the top that it wasn't that offensive.

Meanwhile, work has spiralled into an utter clusterf**k as numerous highly-placed executive officers basically say, "Make IT happen! Now!" and when I inquire exactly what the f**k "IT" entails, they run around looking like Kermit the Frog with his arms flailing wildly. Nobody has a clue on what's going on, and I'm being asked to figure it all out and make it happen. Awesomesauce.

Here comes troll number three.

Fucking hell.

Look at the bright side. In a few hours, they'll be gone.

Having read the thread earlier in the day when it was initially linked, and the following posts in the lower forums here, I've gotta say that was some obnoxious bullshit going on in those threads. I'd be up there posting with you, but I feel like they would inevitably accuse the lower forums of invading or dogpiling or something the more people go up to try and say something sensible. I might still go post something later, if the thread's still going and hasn't been locked by some terrifying anti-miracle, but it's kind of annoying.

I want to help, but feel like helping would make things worse.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Actually I'm staying out of there from this point on. I don't want to be around when the banhammer comes around.

Well, frankly, the thread is getting worse and worse.

So I don't know what to say.

To be honest, I don't think there are any trolls in that thread. I think they're actually serious. Anyway, they have (sadly) succeeded in their trolling, if they are trolls.

That thread's progressively getting me sadder and sadder.

That would be the wise course of action.

Now, excuse me, I have to correct somebody on the internet again.

Yeah I took a glance up there, facepalmed and immediately dove back into the safety and sanity down here. Which, considering the usual state of things on the lower forums, is a scathing indictment in itself.

Sad that the rage thread is closed when I desperately need to vent about traffic.
