The Derail Thread
« on: October 10, 2009, 07:57:33 pm »

Because I'm sick of people trying to stop derailing. If there's a good discussion or argument going on, it should stay that way until it inevitably peters out.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Derailing should be a natural occurance, not just somebody suddenly changing a perfectly good topic: Case and point; Dwarf's post here http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=42870.msg800978#msg800978

Yes, but what if some wise and benevolent person created a topic, specifically so that it could be derailed. Look at us, we're talking about why thread derailing is bad! And maybe later, it will change to something else!

This is the only muse through which I can have a large and satisfying argument with Neruz about nothing at all.

We've had quite a few of these "freestyle" threads throughout the forum's history.

Ironically, they usually stay perfectly on topic for a short while, and then drop dead in their tracks.

We had some of these before. I think we always need one. I hate derails, but I also hate killing an interesting discussion for fear that it'd derail something.

Suggests that there really should be a way to have a conversation with someone without derailing....

Oh, wait its called a pm conversation, or in extreme cases conversation general topic threads...

Remembers that horible time when a derail pandemic spawned from the bowles of the VN...derails that still marr the face of B12.

Yeah, I've enjoyed looking back through VN.  Makes me feel like some kind of spy :P.

The old cesspit of Yuri and Warhammer.

Or at least from what I've seen of it.

The ever-screaming mouth of the grim lord Satan himself.

Hey Leaf, you can still see it too, right?

I posted in the VN preservation project, so yeah.  Even though I joined too late to ever actually post there.

I find myself thankful that most of the pictures there are gone. :D

Indeed.  And why did TYT have to be revived just before VN was locked?  It tarnishes VNs already poor reputation a lot.

Damnit, reading that, I started to worry about IWM, having read about the earthquakes in Indonesia that have killed 700.  Seems he's online now, though.

South East Asia is not doing well this month, it seems. :(
