Well a little over 20 years ago, western leadership manufactured reasons to go to war in the Middle East, one of which ended very recently… and pretty much immediately lost all the ground they made up in the previous two decades.

I think it's important to note that while the WMD era was bullshit, we did go into the Middle East previously because of the Ukraine-style invasion into Kuwait and also actual genocide against the Kurds. IIRC there was some pretty widespread international support. Sort of like if Russia didn't have nukes so nobody was worried about directly throwing them back out of Ukraine.

Mind you, we used to outright support that regime when it was financially convenient to us. Hooray for democracy, and the holy oil revenue that it brings.

But hey wait this is the happy thread. I'm happy because a new couple has moved in across the street from us, and they seem super nice.

They are an LGBTQ couple and they seem to either have kids or have kids visit them, who were at the playground. They said they were their "nephews". Got to introduce myself to them and exchange names and chuckle about kids for a bit.
