Arx, how would you feel about meeting Hanslanda on the top of a buildimg at night? Bring two swords.

Swords. Not fencing rapiers. I want a sword fight, not a fencing match.

What kind of sword? 'Cause I'd probably back myself in a fight with rapiers of any species (although the most likely outcome is both sides injured, severity may vary), but longwords (whether straight and pointy or curved and slashy) would be a lot dicier and I wouldn't fight you sword and board.

On one hand I actually could probably kill someone with a real rapier since I do fencing, on the other hand my girlfriend always tell me that actual swords are all around superior to rapiers so I might just opt for a broadsword and a shield and then whack someone repeatedly while having my shield up and hope they die.

Who's to say this one isn't? Seems like a fairly natural ability to include on your space craft - a separate terrestrial system, as it were.

I think you have the essential tactics down, then.

IIRC that the basic tactic. You slam them with your shield then stab over or around it and try to get a vitals strike while avoiding their attempts to do the same. There was very little real swordplay. Parrying with even a modern made steel recreation sword is how you break your sword, much less an iron sword.

The obvious solution is to bring a crossbow and shoot the opponent while they are complaining about your lack of swords.

Hilarious. If Arx is another non-American I'd certainly get that whole advantage: gun thing. I've got six in my house atm.

Ah, but the drastically higher homicide rate here means I have been genetically selected for under much harsher conditions, offsetting that advantage.

Gladius fight definitely goes up there in "neither participant is walking away healthy" though. As the saying goes, in a knife fight it's not about technique, it's about who can stay standing for longer.
