I mean, according to Sweden and the World, people eat fermented fish.
And Lutefisk, which is... just...

Quote
When this treatment is finished, the fish (saturated with lye) is caustic, with a pH of 11–12. To make the fish edible, a final treatment of yet another four to six days of soaking in cold water (also changed daily) is needed. Eventually, the lutefisk is ready to be cooked.

In Finland, the traditional reagent used is birch ash.
... just awesome.  It's on my bucket list.

Hey, I consider hominy a treat food, so I'm used to foods that are unnecessarily treated with lye!

It is 02:00, the oven is at 200°C, ten Stollen are done, four are yet to come. The kitchen is a mess, my back hurts, and I gotta get up at ten in the morning tomorrow.

You say it smells like Christmas? I say it smells like victory.

My boyfriend is chatting with me as he plays demon (sic) souls for money.
And he still loves my voice
And apparently... apparently
Apparently he loves me for what I am
And... and <3

I guess a good relationship involves some boundaries..
I established them, and he accepted them, and...  and he didn't retract them a few days later... and I am so happy

Well shit, something's working out for somebody, at least. Always good to hear.

And my sleep schedule's fucked all the way to hell and back again.

... I just want to be nice to somebody for a change. I've been abrasive this past week, I guess. I don't suppose waking any of my friends up to be nice to them is gonna work out for me.

I've been wanting something for a while, and I can't for the life of me figure out what. Something's missing - not in a bad way, I just know that I can't relax right now. Perhaps I have forgotten something? I've double-checked all my study stuff, and there's nothing. I went over all my chat logs to see if I promised anybody anything, and there's nothing there, too. Perhaps it's just random restlessness.

...Can't sleep. I really should, though.

Just got home to find a huge, adorable goofball of an overgrown puppy in my house. Very cute.
Had me smiling despite everything I'm supposed to be worrying about. :)

Nope, but it's certainly an improvement on random baby. That was awful.
Random puppy is cute so I am not complaining. ^-^ Apparently it belongs to one of my housemate's friends, who hasn't been around much lately.

Well, that works out for you too, I guess. Baby = problemo, I guess. But Puppy is good.

Fuck it all, I am going to sleep. Goodnight.

Looking for a new software dev job. The process has been ongoing for about two years - I have a job currently so it's not exactly urgent.

Normally a two year job search would go in the sad thread but there are extenuating circumstances. My weird-ass music playlist that no one but me likes when combined with my new favorite cocktail (grapefruit juice combined with some nice 90 proof bourbon) make this a fairly pleasant experience. I may be slightly buzzed - probably wouldn't use the word "extenuating" otherwise.

Now off to the sad thread. I'm out of bourbon.

I wish there was a dog petting zoo or a dog cafe in Germany, so that I can play with puppers.

Dog cafes are one of the better ideas that Thailand has.

You have dog cafes? We just have cat cafes here in Russia. And also time cafes with cats living in them sometimes.
A dog cafe sounds like a better idea, actually, since dogs are generally less irritable than cats.

well if i ever do get a ship, i plan on doing a pacific expedition, so i'd be more than happy to take you on

there probably won't be any actual shipwreck exploration unless you're trained to scuba dive tho

i had my eye on a nice boat a few months back, but it cost a ton of money and the initial capital is really the biggest issue here

You know, if you had the boat, the experience, and the space, I would absolutely take you up on that.

I don't have a lot of money to throw around right now, but I can catch and clean fish, and cook pretty well. I'm reasonably handy, and have a bit of experience working on cars and engines. I've piloted a Class 2 fishing boat a few times, done some open-water navigation, and helped crew a sailboat once (though only in the great lakes, where bad storms and 5+ foot waves are pretty rare). I'd be more than willing to study up, save up, and chip in however I could, too.

Also, though I have access to diving gear, I don't have Open-Water Scuba certification. With enough advanced notice, though, I could get it pretty easily.

-snippity-
I'll warn you that you'd need a fair bit more qualification to be able to dive any wrecks I know of in the Pacific (even of the divable ones I've heard of) due to depth and gas (and safety) limitations. Expedition diving is some pretty damn high level stuff :P
