Lovely major breakthrough with therapist today. I had lovely flawed thinking: that if I worked hard enough people would like me, or at least let me be. Be useful. I was allowed to exist until I wouldn't "stay in my place." They tried to put me back in that place. I blew open the corruption; the corruption didn't like it, fought back; lost, but at terrible cost to me.

I could not comprehend why people would turn on the person who was useful / helpful to them. Answer: because I turned on the (corrupt) people who were even more useful to them.... In turning in/imprisoning them, I cut off the usefulness (corrupt though it was) that they provided. It was a twisted cost benefit analysis, that I never would have thought to engage in, but they did.

Meanwhile, I also figured out that I was being an enabler in trying to "work hard enough that they'd leave me alone."

I gave people too much credit. I was too innocently generous and refused to ascribe motives to people.

I am happy because I'm finally fine with my gender (i.e., not quite knowing what it is).

I was pretty sure that I was agender a few months ago, but there were some confusing parts. The main discrepancy was my response to the following question that I had asked myself.

"If you could cheaply, reversibly, unintrusively, and easily change your gender to female, would you do it?"

I was asking myself that question to try and remove the actual costs of gender-switching from the equation, and was somewhat startled when the result was "Definitely yes." But I failed to take into account the following:

1. I have been bullied for several years by boys because - well, I'm definitely not a masculine person. (Kind of fits, heh.) I'm not saying that female gender roles aren't reinforced, but in the specific situations that I have been in, tomboys are definitely more "approved of" than nonmasculine boys.

2. The reversibility part was intended to remove the "devil you know" from the equation, but it introduced curiosity.

3. It also introduced the ability to experimentally verify my gender. For both myself, and !!SCIENCE!!

So it's no wonder that I answered yes! Now that everything is wrapped neatly up, I can confidently label myself as "agender."

...which would raise the question of "why do you need to label yourself," but I'm a very orderly person. I like knowns, not unknowns. I want my box, dammit! Also, it means that I can explain my gender with one word, which helps when talking about it. If I ever want to talk about that sort of thing, which I might.

While we're on the topic of gender (thus making this not quite as much of a derail):

Would it make any sense at all to construct a Kinsey-like gender scale? Something like

Where the left is female, the right is male? 7 is hypermasculine (MANLY MAN WHO IS SO TOTALLY MANLY HE HAS TO REMIND YOU EVERY MINUTE), 6 is definitely not agender or trans, but not SUPERMASCULINE, 1 and 2 are similar, 4 is entirely agender, and 3 and 5 are "slightly" gendered but without a way of measuring precisely, pretty much identical to 4 for most intents and purposes?

Or is this just a bunch of nonsense?
