I'm fairly sure there's a lot of psychopaths who are perfectly aware they are psychopaths, through someone else's diagnosis if nothing else.

Totes is bruh. No empathy means no shits given. Ultimate ambition much easier to attain when you don't care who you step on to get there.

Hahaha, ambition is easily attained through will, success is not much easier to attain when you don't care who you step on to get there. It is as the Emperor of the Shu-Han said, Righteousness and Justice are the twin swords with which he'll cut down his enemies - it's all nice and well in fiction to have power-hungry despots stabbing their way to the top, but they don't tend to stay on top for long.
The ambitious who value loyalty and fairness do tend to have more success and longevity, no?
Most great leaders we consider psychopaths are very moral people, merely operating on another system of morality to the ones we find acceptable. Communists and Capitalists for example, both working towards better futures, yet utterly inimical to one another and have in the past legally defined believing in their opposition as a sign of mental illness. A leader who operates under no moral framework?
Amongst my friends is one we all call snake, who is very trustworthy and a good friend - but trustworthy in the sense that we all know he'll happily step on you and take your ideas if it offered sufficient profit, having a past reputation of doing so quite brazenly. Good person, with great ambition and no respect for loyalty - as a result all who know him do not trust him, and even amongst friends no talk of cooperation is had.

It was partial sarcasm. The lack of emotional intelligence/empathy is a bonus in a competitive environment (like work) but, as LW said, doesn't tend to foster much in the way of loyalty.

Jon Ronson (a journo, but whatevs) wrote a book about CEOs being more likely than the aveage person to be psychopaths. article on it, though it does seem to confuse narcissism and Machiavellianism with psychopathy, and it is a little bit sensational. But bugger looking for a better one on my phone.

What my new job pays me:

• 36 cents per mile
• Detention pay
• Rail delay pay
• Layover pay
• Hazard pay
• Out-of-state pay
• Breakdown pay
• Shag pay
• Overweight load re-work pay
• Live-loading pay
• Extra stop pay
• Reefer (refrigerated) pay
• Training and meeting pay

Everything on the second list (except for hazard and reefer) were things that I was doing at my old job, I just didn't get compensated for any of it. This new job is looking better and better.

Saw a barn spider setting its web up in my garage when I was up in the loft (really just some planks laid over the joists in the roof for more storage space) looking for my fishing pole. There's only one of them up there now, but maybe the place won't be completely taken over by horseflies like last year.

I have sort of mixed feelings about the whole thing though, since the fishing poles've all been stolen.
