We don't talk about Medieval Latin. It's like Old English; spawn of Hell and Satan's whore.

If everything goes well with my abitur, today was the last day of high school for me. I'm not going to stop here, of course, but I await the storied freedom of university life with happiness.

Does that mean it's pronounced Kaizer salad, not Ceeser salad?
Ceasar salad isn't named after the roman empire at all, but is rather named after Caesar Cardini, and italian immigrant (and is thus pronounced the normal way we say the word "Caesar").

The real question then becomes... Is the surname pronounced Sardini or Kardini?

I have reservations about the freedom bit. It's sure fun so far, though.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

Actually likely the latter, unless it's some weird regional thing.

Probably Sardini, like Sardinia.
If it was a toponym, the place is written as Sardegna in standard Italian, so it doesn't mesh.

I'm leaving high school for university. This is almost certainly going to be a net increase in freedom.

I mean phonetically; sardeenee as opposed to sardinny

Fair enough. Still, standard Italian (which, annoyingly, is basically one Italian out of a whole bunch of other, sometimes much different Italians) reads 'C' as K/Ch (depending on context) most of the time.

Both the "Kay-" pronounciation and the S sounding pronounciation exist in italy today, though the most prevalent one is the S sounding one, while the original latin pronounciation sounds like "Kaizar", which is where the german "Kaiser" comes from.

Also, today is my father's cakeday.

Pretty sure that's usually only double-c, although I might be talking out of my esophagus.

No. Ferex, 'cercare', pronounced [cherkare], to seek, or for that matter cerchio, circle.
