In Russia, hugs are rather common among good friends upon meeting.
Not eveyone does this, but still fairly common.

When I was farmerboy, hugs were for extended family members who didn't know better.
Then I moved to city, and met girl with boobs, who enjoyed hugging me all the time. The trepidation faded very quickly.
However, she began to ask why I did not hug any of my other friends, guy friends.
I tried to tell her it was because of the boobs, but she laughed it off.

Now I have become hug whore. They are casual and meaningless to me...
But boob girl and I... Now cuddle.
Platonically.

...that is true, i had forgotten cuddling, that is almost always fantabulous (especially platonic cuddling!)

hugs are still amazing though, and are easier and more applicable to most social situations

Shoot, I failed then. If I've met you (and you are a peer) more than...probably 3 times than all greetings and farewells are accompanied by a hug. I've developed a sort of "hugsense", though, anyone who would be uncomfortable with a hug I can just tell and pass on them.
