Re: Cities vs Country: I was born in the city and spent the first bit of my life in a suburb, then my parents moved out to an acreage in the bush (thinking it would be a better place for me to grow up- apart from the horrible redneck neighbours anyway) and that was fun, then moved back into suburbs a few years later, and then moved way up the coast to this little country town, where I wasted ten years of my life. It was pretty damn boring and sad indeed. I don't think I really understood the 'bad points' of suburbs as a kid; we had a nice house and I had plenty of fun and friends at school, so what the hell more did I need?
I definitely prefer the city, thank you very much. Country places can be alright for a while, but yeah. My social anxiety is far worse walking down the main street of a country(ish?) town than it is navigating my way through crowds in a city's CBD, and there's far more fun stuff to do in a city.
I imagine country places in countries other than Australia might be a bit nicer, not being filled with friggin' cicadas and all.

I've had the monitor for almost two years.  It's an old thing I bought for super cheap off a friend who wasn't using it.  I just haven't picked up a DVI cable long enough to pull this off until today

And yeah... if you can't tell, the one on the left is propped up by books.  I took it off its base and balanced it standing in portrait mode between the backboard of my desk and the edge of my main monitor.  Seems pretty stable, and it matches against the height of my main monitor almost perfectly.

I'm quite poor and people wonder how I manage things like this... but you can manage some powerful stuff with research and patience.  For example, my main monitor is super high class, but through diligence, I picked it up for half what it's worth.  It was the only major geek purchase I made that year, but I expect it to serve me well for a very long time.

Also, another long day.  All get shit done mode from roughly 8 am to 10:30 pm.  So tired.  But I'm so close to my first week of vacation in over a year.

Farrrrrk. I am so relieved right now.
Didn't receive my payment and assumed I'd missed some unknown appointment and been cut off completely, since I'm on my last chance for missing appointments. Went to the office just now and discovered that the only problem was that I'd forgotten to 'report', since my reporting frequency had changed recently. No actual missed appointments or anything.
So, now I get paid tomorrow, and will have (hopefully) plenty of money to move next month. Hooray!
