I learned today that a decision I made and stuck by probably saved my father's life.  :)

Had a pretty good day after a string of 'em that tended to be at best kinda meh.
Main thing that made it nice was finishing up the book I was reading, Empire Falls.
'twas an interesting little(okay not little, but even so) book.

To not commit patricide.

More seriously though, I'm curious too.

I was 99.3rd percentile on the SAT.

Everyone at school knew because my math teacher asked me how well I did and he started doing things like calling my brother "2120's brother" when I told him :P

But yeah, it does make you feel bad. A lot of my friends worked really hard in school while I just kinda didn't. One such friend asked me how I did and she sounded... downtrodden at my results.

I got 2300 on my SATs.  At my high school, that was "maybe acceptable."  LOL.

I got a 1340, back when it was the 1600 scale.  Not a single time has anyone, anywhere, ever asked for my SAT scores.  Even applying to different colleges, the only question was, "Can you pay us?"

He was pretty ill (103 degree fever, etc.), but my mother wanted to go out of town to spend a bit more time with my grandmother (who had gone home early because she's getting up there in years and can't afford to catch anything). I insisted that we stay home, because my dad's the sort of guy who will never say anything about how he feels when he's sick. When the fever was still there in the morning we took him to the ER (the total visit length was from ~3:00PM to 11:00PM). He ended up on a fluid IV pump for most of that to treat severe dehydration. When the lab results came back from the tests on him, the nurse used a delightful euphemism, saying that "if you had waited until the weekend to bring him in, there would have been a negative patient health outcome".

He was feeling better this morning and basically described yesterday as a long sequence of sensory deprivation and hallucinations. One of the better ones involved the entire hospital parking lot being covered in chicken bones, because someone had left a few on the ground and all of the dead leaves started looking just like them.

I have absolutely no memory of my SAT scores, and not until this very moment have I given a shit since I got into college. Damn Bay12 infoshare fads pulling me in again.

98th percentile on my Biology GREs, though, so nyeh.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I don't think we had SATs here. We had this weird exam at the end of highschool meant to supplement or replace our standard scores if we mysteriously became ill or died called the 'GAT' - while i scored quite poorly on my normal highschool exams, my GAT was in the 95th percentile - something like 35-38/40 for most areas.

I spent an entire day refactoring and testing a piece of old code. This is probably also appropriate for the WTF thread.

Was about to go to bed when I realized that I forgot to do the extra credit assignment (due last night at midnight) for my programming class, and almost certainly got a B as a result. I check and see that I have a 89.4%. A bit of fiddling shows me that even if the extra credit assignment was worth 5 points and I got a F on it, it would have been enough to get me a A in the class. I look at the assignments page for a bit more info on how many we had so far, and see that the due date was changed to midnight tonight. Guess I'm going to have to get a A in the class after all (although I might have to spend 10 hours working on when I wake up later).

Saw a friend for the first time in half a year yesterday, and now have the opportunity to visit her in England sometime around March.
