Is there any special skills needed for trucking besides needing to be able to lift the cab?

Lift the cab...? 
Anyway, you need to be in reasonably good shape, have good eyesight (can be correctable with lenses) and hearing, at least three years of a clean driving record, and the willingness to sit in and drive a large, very heavy vehicle for up to 11-14 hours a day. It helps if you know how to use a stickshift, but that's not required to get accepted at a school.

That's all you need to get started. Everything else you learn hands-on and on the job.

Sorry to continue the trucking tangent, but today was such a good day.

Our route took us down I-15 through Arizona. Goddamn but that was some of the most incredible scenery I've ever seen. Apparently we were passing by the northern parts of the Grand Canyon, but how close I couldn't say.

Also while driving, I began developing a world concept for a possible future writing project. Basically a world of humans, dwarves, elves, etc in modern-day settings with comparable technology. Not quite sure what to do with it yet but its already getting fairly well thought-out.

Ninja edit @Skyrunner: It's a bit of a challenge for sure. But in some ways its actually quite relaxing, especially when going down a major freeway with very little traffic and the cruise control on.

Yeah but sadly the trailer doesn't transform, so you get a giant robot with no legs. Kinda hard to fight evil like that.

I was thinking cargo, but that's fine. Is it one of the newer trucks that shifts for you? I know they've started seeing use in the US, and I believe they've been in Europe for a while.

Nope. You got the clutch, you got the stick with the little high/low selector, and you shift yourself.
