I prefer vastly more freeform games, since I'm not too interested in the wargame aspect. If the dice are rolled for anything other than A) choosing between two or more equally awesome possibilities, or B) the neat sound they make, it's too strict for me.

That's a very valid opinion, i like most forms of roleplaying myself. I don't play dnd as much as a wargame per se, more as an interactive story written partially by players, but that's how i see pretty much every roleplaying game. I'm actually going over to a friends place to play a homebrewed rpg of his own devising tomorrow actually.

In my experience, it doesn't really happen enough to have it's own name beyond "Did that just happen?"
