I present to you a haiku on a subject close to my heart.

I'm eating popcorn
With no hands, only tongue
Om nom nom nom nom
The middle line has only six syllables
I'm sorry, but I must present quibbles
Yes I am still rhyming after all this time
Just because, I'm so inclined

Be warned, the interface is a little confusing, and the "artwork" is laughable.  Hence Janet's modding effort.

I eagerly await the results of said modding, too, but I've heard really good things about the game. Visuals, however, are less than the most important thing to me. I play DF, for crying out loud. :P

You might be right, at least if you don't enunciate the "s" on "hands" like I do.

Considering how Japanese works, I think your syllables are:

10
12
10

Haha

Wikipedia says that "cat" counts as two, but doesn't say why, so I figure it's because it's "catu", so your haiku goes like this:

Aimu itingu papucorun (n counts as 1)
withu no handusu, onri tongu
omu nomu nomu nomu nomu (I like that one :P)

Syllables have always been a very fudgy thing, especially when there's multiple ways of pronounce words, I generally try to go with whatever and not worry about it too much.

Also I may just start using omu nomu nomu.

Cat's neko
And your romaji's pretty close.

Aimu itingu papucoun
Uisu no handozu, onri tangu
Omu nomu nomu nomu nomu

I think he's talking about japonicising (shut up, it's totally a word) 'cat'.

Yeah, what blargity said.

I have, like, almost no experience with romaji except for the occasional wikipedia romanization of japanese titles, so thanks >_>

One thing I always wondered; what does Japan mean? Nihon = land of the rising sound.
Wiktionary suggests it's from Dutch Japan, Portuguese Japao, middle english Giapan and malay Jepang.
It doesn't say what it means though...

Cipangu/Zeppen (I think) is the Chinese pronunciation of rising sun. Possibly bastardized. The first westerners to do much in Japan were the Portugeuse, and they first heard the term in their trading station in Malacca, in Malaysia. The Malay word, Jepang, comes from  another Chinese term, Jih'pen'kuo. Definitely bastardized into English.

Modern Mandarin for Japan is 'riben', pronounced almost like 'urban', but de-emphasising the u; just 'rben'

Something to note is that English almost never uses a people's name for themselves to refer to a group of people. For cultures very far away, we usually use names that one of the local populations uses for them.
