My adult history, in a nutshell:

Graduate school. Bum around until parents make me get a job. Move to NY for a girl. Drink copious amounts of booze. Work for her parents until she dumps me and leaves me homeless. Drink more. Nearly get eaten by a wolf. Scrape together change by telling jokes and doodling on napkins in a local truck stop. Get back home. Party hardy. Drink more. Drift through jobs and move in with a girl as "just friends". Suddenly, married with kid and house. Get house taken away. Drift through apartments and more jobs. Move in with her dad to help with bills. Move again because house gets taken away. Move into my parents' house to help with bills. Drink more. Divorce. Potential light at the end of the tunnel?

Well that sounds vaguely like my story, but with engagement rather than marriage, a lot more violence, serious familial drama on both sides, and less alcohol.

Judging by Bay12 mechanics, I ascertain that our adult life issues stem from varying extremes of alcohol consumption or non-consumption rather than a healthy, regularized intake of dwarven rum.

Most of the violence was in my teenage years. I was in over 200 street fights before I got into martial arts at 15. Hell, I used to "fight club" for money, in between graffiti stints (that I was shot at for, and subsequently quit.) I've been stabbed over 100 times. Mostly by my siblings.

Edit: Sorry if this comes out as "Internet Tough Guy", but in my family, the kids fought (against cousins and aunts and such, my parents were always really good to us) for our lives from the time we could punch back. It's just the way it was.

I always used to say, "I feel so old sometimes". I say it less these days, but I've always felt and acted much older than I really am, even when I was a child  people used to tell me I acted and spoke like an aged adult... I started to get a bit more childish in my later teen years though.

These days I tend to feel about the age I am, but sometimes I do still feel like an 80 year old man though.

Brought it up (I think in this thread!) once before; but i remember a friend of mine somewhat drunkenly saying "You know what I like about you? You sound like a victorian gentleman... All proper and mature... There aren't many of them around..."

I've always felt and acted older than my age. I'd argue that I've been more mature than my mother for most of my life.
