... I seem to have an auto-immune response as soon as fanfic is mentioned. Also, Twilight is on my "avoid at all costs" list along with movies by Michael Bay :P

EDIT: Oh no i saw Pearl Harbour on TV, so my "bay-free-zone" has been compromised :o

It has gone into the tab horde. We'll see, heh. Seems lengthy, which is a point in its favor.

And yeah Ree, Twilight's one of those things I haven't even attempted to find readable fanfiction for. Bloody thing's either bait for poor slash writers or some freakish permutation of poorly written mary-sue indulgence. M'terrifyingly aware that a good writer can do amazing things even with a mindbogglingly poor starting point, but still...

Let me put it this way.

After the first few chapters, it's not Twilight any more.

My Piano

This song isn't really my favourite genre, but the fact that it's done by a dear friend of mine and features a good proportion of other friends in the clip makes me love it all the more.

Yay!

Just watched Citizen Kane for the first time.  Heh, I was watching it with my mom, and she didn't know what Rosebud was.  Damn good movie though even knowing the end.

Good Twilight fanfic? That's like saying Urist took a masterfully-crafted shit yesterday, menacing with spikes of microcline and glitter. Twilight is horribly-written, end of story. Once you get past terrible writing, you must remember that its a typical half-baked uninteresting teenage love story that has cliche imprinted within its very soul; or supposed lack thereof. Even if you employed the literary world's greatest minds, you'd still end up with nothing more than a cliche teenage chick-flick.

I, for one, prefer interesting romances. If I'm going to go cliche, I'd at least like something refreshing and beautiful like The Notebook.

And yes, I forced myself to watch the Twilight movies and was practically indoctrinated into the art of Twilight due to living with someone who has every single book and movie. Read the first two intently simply for the sake of shutting everyone the fuck up, and it was quite honestly more disappointing than I'd originally figured.

The attachment many people find is not literary, but emotional. Folks are drawn to the romantic notions of such a story, which quite obviously blinds them to the atrocious quality of the actual literature.

*shrug*

tldr;

Good? Twilight? HAH.

I read Twilight once and had to stop because it reminded me too much of the stories year 8 girls would write for English.
Pretty awfully written, good intentions but abysmally pulled off.

The fanfic would be great if it didn't have the Twilight tag/stigma associated with it.

Yes, but then it'd just be a standard vampire romance, which is all fine and dandy.

Oh, I came back about a year later and force-read it. Didn't like it.

I *did* read the entire series though, don't get me wrong... but the lurid plot errors within it are crazy.

Twilight itself is shit.

Pointless obfuscation makes me happy. Burying plot-critical foreshadowing in a gif of a looping binary sequence that plays on your standard "Wait, what conceivable purpose could outputting raw binary have?" monitors in a research facility (overrun by your standard horrors from beyond time) in a tabletop roleplaying game? Yes. There's practically zero chance anybody will care enough to transcribe it, even though the fact that I'm handing it to the players suggests it is important and they'll know that. Even if the players never notice, the fact that there's a plausible reason for the monitors doing this, and that the translation conveys a hint as to future past events (incidentally, non-linear storytelling is also fun), makes me happy just for putting in the detail.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Yeah... that was my point. :L
The fanfic is probably quite good, well, some of it... but the stigma of Twilight would affect it.

If you let stigmas affect your personal enjoyment of things, then you are the sillies.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
