Yea, that was the biggest inspiration. Basically it is going to be Zelda II with some more content and knick knacks, and procedurally genned levels and overworld.

Because I fucking love Zelda II and the fact that is hasn't spawned an entire genera of roguelike side scrollers is not acceptable.

I've considered such a thing myself.  There used to be a lot of games like that back in the 2D days, even if they weren't procedural.  Faxanadu was one I remember, must have played it a dozen hours or more and never saw everything.  We call them "Metroidvania"s today, and I see no reason why you couldn't make one that generates its content.

Small enough that it's unreadable from someone else's perspective. Assuming your monitor isn't more than a few feet away from your face, it should be easy enough to manage.
