The Knowledge Bowl team just got invited to the 'High School National Championship Tournament' for Quiz Bowl in Atlanta this coming June. I think we might actually have a shot at the small schools division, if we can raise the money to get there. Also, we crushed the team that is now in 3rd place. The coach of the team ahead of us said he'd guarantee another match between our teams, so we have a chance yet. (We beat them before, and then lost when our buzzer broke and we couldn't ring it. Zero points in the second half and they still barely beat us.  )

That team has won almost every year for 25 years. There is no procedure for such a thing, so we went to democracy. Obviously we wanted to have a rematch. Their team called it 'our fault', because they were our bars that we brought to the competition. The team in the middle didn't care either way, as the score was something like 11-3-9 before the malfunction.

And this is why I want to beat them so much this year. If we can beat them, we'll have beaten a powerhouse school that repeatedly wins their state division, that of the largest schools. I do so enjoy removing the smugness of smug bastards. Knowledge Bowl doesn't get much respect around here, but the goal of becoming the very best (like no one ever was) in the whole state is pretty attractive to me. If the trip to Atlanta goes through, we even have a shot at being the best in the country, or failing that, at least the best small school.
