If memory serves, that's why Pluto and the other members of greek pantheon in charge of things like famine and disease were worshiped, as it would keep them happy and the hell away from mortals. But then, Pluto/Hades worshipers would smash their heads against the ground as they prayed, so he could hear them down in the underworld. Not sure if they were entirely sane at all.
