MonkeyHead! My Dad has one of those!

Damn thing doesn't stop getting bigger.

Had mine since I was a toddler. They NEVER stop growing (new layer of shell each year), and can live to around 100 in captivity, though the theoretical maximum isnt really known. Mine is around 30 as we think it was newly hatched back in 1981. Young me was clearly a comic as its named Speedy (quite descriptive as they are suprisingly fast), and he is now about the size of a cut in half soccer ball. Good at keeping the vegetation down, even if he does dig plenty of holes, and attempts to mate with anything resembling a rock.

I'm not quite redneck enough to go about nudging snapping turtles with my shoe.

Nope! I've had a few relatives that have done something like that, though. All pieces still intact, too.

The most I've done to snapping turtles is poke one with a stick, iirc. Might have hooked one once when I was much smaller, dunno. Memory's a bit fuzzy that far back.
