I'm also weird about repetition, as well as rhymes and alliteration.  It puts a weird rhythm on the sentence and I have a strong urge to fix it.  When I want to avoid using "said" a lot I usually dedicate it with action:  "Hella Jeff glanced at Sweet and rolled his eyes, 'who were you expecting?  the easter bunny?'"

I have a sortof obsessive compulsive obsession with eliminating repetition when I read back through anything I've written (so if you see it in my posts, it's a sure sign I haven't proofread).  So... I kindof understand.  Heck, I often end up with undedicated speech just to avoid an endless stream of "said".

Oh God, I know exactly what you're talking about.  Any time I write something, or I'm reading something, there's a little part of me that twings like crazy when I see the same non-structurally-necessary word used more than once, or even if there's strong alliteration.  I'll wind up using ridiculous similes and contorted sentences just to avoid two lines having anything in common.  And then they all wind up as double or triple compound sentences with extra clauses and crap anyway.

It's a good one too.

Huh.

Janet, whenever I see that quote in your sig, I imagine Workerdrone singing it to the tune of "It's Raining Men".

It might take a while to find one... Oh wait, one of your first quests can involve killing a retarded dwarf and breaking all his shit.  And "making/throwing explosives" is probably the most brokenly powerful character build in the game.

Firefox recognizes "brokenly" as a word.  What the Hell, that is not a word.

I think if enough people use a word-that-is-not-a-word, it becomes a word.

It does seem like a good niche for a word, though.
