Indeed. Have a fun, safe Halloween, and remember-It's not illegal if you don't get caught.

My sister and I were running a facepaint stall at a church fête, so I spent half the day with a cheetah face. Does that count for halloween?

Also the church raised quite a sum of funds, so we might actually be able to sort out some of the stuff we've been wanting to improve for ages.

Speaking of happies, I just noticed SalmonGod has lyrics from The Human Equation in the sigtext.

One of the best albums by one of my favorite music projects.

Finally managed to take off a too-small ring that I was stupid enough to force onto my ring finger a few days back.
Now it's in constant danger of falling off my pinky, but at least my ring finger isn't in constant pain.

I've totally not been in the Halloween mood this year, but being at the library and seeing all the kids dressed up (and mine reprising their Anakin Skywalker and Clone Trooper from last year) has me in the spirit. Totally want to homebrew a costume next year.

Do it! Embrace the fact that you actually have a mainstream costume component.

Picked up the full Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit for R50 (~$4.50) today. Pretty chuffed, the Hobbit is in near-mint condition and the LotR is a bit scuffed but not excessively so.

Buckwheat burgers are working better this time. I'll get the hang of using this stuff as a meat extender soon!

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

When will people learn that doing a thing ≠ promoting a thing. And how it's particularly dumb to get worked up over the mildest crossdressing ever (well I assume the outfit was along the lines of hair, men's suit, and moustache, right?).
Good on your peers for complaining about it.

Honestly, before I checked the context and just read about a school punishing someone for crossdressing, I assumed it would be from the other side of the spectrum. I thought the justification would be along the lines of "cis people crossdressing is problematic because it reinforces stereotypes that trans people are just pretending and being able to do without being judged is an example of cis privilege in action and men who wear dresses are literally responsible for killing trans people".

Probably has to do with being a college student in America where that attitude is reasonably widespread among the mid-level administration and some of the student body. Horseshoe theory in action, I guess.

I think it's more likely to be confirmation bias.

It's so nice to have beer money again. Also, I realized that I'm super qualified to be a Federation starship captain. The captain in each Star Trek series that has one* has a name starting with 'J'. I have two! So provided it isn't a double negative sort of arrangement this should work.

*Basically, we're excluding Sisko here.

Yes, but I do think I accurately pinpointed the source of the bias and it's still ridiculous.
