So it's a samurai detective or something. I'm not sure what I was thinking. If this was a physical image on physical paper, I'd probably bury it underground, but it's not, so I'm burying it here instead.

I understand what your getting at, but I think its a bit too close, I find it harder to tell whats happening. But its probably just me.

It's not just you - originally it was even worse.  I've never really done a comic like this before, so I'm learning as I go; the more recent page(s) are a bit less dense.

You can keep the crazy lady in a dense layout, it makes the craziness seem more filling. You just need to open up the opening panel and the panels with the robot, possibly open enough to show the gun.

I'll have another go at laying out the first page tomorrow, I think.  For now, page 2:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm having some major trouble with the first panel, I can't seem to get it looking balanced and not massively overcrowded.  I'm considering using this instead of the current one:

Lofn: I think the alternative one is better. The one up there now is stylistically most excellent, but it's difficult to see the shapes with the black background.

Also, kobolds! :D

Lofn, I don't mind the overcrowding personally - your comic looks good so far.

@Lofn: Original one's... easier on the eye. the black background works.

I love how the orange cobalt has an eye strip, as if someone's going to mistake them for another ridiculously orange cobalt

Perhaps if you made the background of the alternate image black and made the background spark from robot gray instead of white then you could pull it off. Also, the blue sparks could be used to show which shapes are what, having them overlap in a way that we can clearly see which shape is which. Perspective tricks need to be used with that style to make shapes stand out.

Lofn, I love your comic already. Both first panels are good; the original one more of a motif or something (would make a great watermark), the second one more typically comic book art.

what are you making the comic with? Photo shop?
Also I love the alternative. I hate the black. The grey makes everything stand out.

It's Flash, yes.  Nothing else seems to a. be vector-based and b. have remotely similar painting and smoothing tools.

This is a goblin from EFFIGIES.

When I've drawn goblins from DWARF FORTRESS or GRAND ADVENTURE, they usually look pretty standard. They're bald, green, and nasty with big eyes, jagged teeth, and long ears. I decided that the "evil savage" design didn't really work for EFFIGIES goblins.

the Goblins in EFFIGIES are an immortal race that have slept beneath the earth for two centuries. They are powerful and dangerous (it took the combined efforts of men, elves, and dwarves to drive them underground), and I think their design should reflect that. They are not cowardly or sneaky, but stern and brutal, with traces of nobility in their destructive determination.
