Challenge: Grave Hotel
« on: September 01, 2009, 03:05:04 am »

There are traditionalists, who still believe the best way to be buried is in the soil of one's homeland.
But WE know, that the best way of dying is in the new grave hotel! Just come, rent a room and die. The dwarfs will bury you with the honor YOU deserve! Come Now! Cause there's no better way to die than a fork in the eye.

Ok, here's my challenge. Your seven dwarfs are the owners of a grave hotel. You create many magnificient rooms for immigrant dwarfs to live in - with deadly traps and a coffin. As soon as the dwarf there is dead, he is put into the coffin and the chamber is sealed. Rinse, repeat. The only dwarfs who won't be euthanized are your seven dwarfs who run the whole thing. Immigrants get all their labors disabled and just laze around till they die. Should one of your seven dwarfs die, one immigrant may be promoted to replace him.

Variations:

-No two dwarfs may be killed the same way
-Your seven dwarfs only have mediocre rooms and stuff and have no access to the hotel area (drawbridge, sealed doors, etc) until a dwarf dies. Then they put him in the coffin, seal the chamber and leave again. Extensions to the Hotel are only connected, when they are finished.
-Dead grave diggers are not replaced

It should be.....fun.....

With some of the twisted things I've done on DF, I'm surprised I didn't think of this myself. will be doing.

I can see your ads around the Mountainhome.

"Come One! Come All! Now YOU too can live the life of a Noble!"

Those lucky dwarves, despite the risk of being stabbed, shots, poisoned, eaten, mauled, enslaved, eviscerated or involved in accidents... at least they don’t have to worry about immediate dangers like the heat death of the universe.

Now this sounds interesting. Bonus points for making a cruise ship grave hotel that you sink after all the rooms are filled.

Double bonus points if it sinks into a pool of magma.

(If it was completely constructed, would it deconstruct after hitting the bottom of the magma pool?)

All constructions instantly deconstruct upon collapse.

This can be handy - if you want to quickly destroy a megaconstruction, just deconstruct the lowest layer, and the rest will vanish! Well, and rain down their component parts plus a megadustcloud.

You know, we should get a 3d visualizer-type app to render dust clouds. Then we should dust a megaconstruction. And take a 3d of it on the first frame.

We should make two giant steel/glass towers next to each other, deconstuct them from the middle and say the goblins did it!

But then the Philisopher will wonder if the nobles did not orchestrate the whole thing and it'll make a big stink on the Mountainhome boards, especially when a deconstruct order is found at the tip of the goblin on one of the drawings engravings.

(you know, you can edit your posts. Seriously, do that.)

Sadly, there's one problem with the whole scheme: Dwarves die -> few immigrants.

Oh well. Few is better than none.
