AH! SIEGE! Help!!!
« on: August 07, 2009, 02:08:55 pm »

Ok, it's nearing winter, my first year, nearing it's close. I've got the dig deeper, and all of the sudden..

'A vile force of darkness has arrived!'

SHIT. What am i supposed to do? The wrestlers are bare naked with no weapons, and the ones that do have weapon specialties[on the orc side that is]have steel weapons, and steel armor! What am i supposed to do?

Seal your fort. The orcs should get bored and go away.

Put up doors and forbid them? Dig a fast moat around the entrance if they have building destroyer? Failing either of the 2 above, from what i have heard, your next option is to die...

Alright.. Once my food starts running low i suppose ill build a tunnel to my underground farm, remove the ramp to the surface and build a wall there. Hopefully i'll last.

EDIT/PS:I'm modding it so i can get free bars and charcoal and stuff at the smelter-so i get the stuff and need to make a chain, i add it to the forges task thing, no one comes. I go see my blacksmith/metalsmith, all his metal/weapon/armor/blacksmithing labors are on and he has those skills, he's not doing any other task so how do i get him to do it? Mainly it's for a chain for a well, but i do need it so i might be able to make some bolts and crossbows.

I would strongly recommend not modding. Either you'll beat the siege and be stronger for it or you'll fall and start a new (and more defensible fort). Regardless, you should try to learn a lesson from this fortress and design future ones with that lesson in mind. Jumping straight to modding will destroy the fun and challenge of the game.

---My question erm, remains ^^. See, i need that chain, and i bought a iron bar off the caravan and i have charcoal and a forge, so can you answer my question?

P.S. On a lighter note, 2 of my lover dwarves got married! Yay, even in this tough siege time their still happy, probably from me smoothing and engraving all their rooms. :D.

You already asked that question in a separate thread, where I've already answered it.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Since you are using the cheat thing, it comes from the smelter. Anything made at the smelter requires the furnace operating skill.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

As long as you're into cheats why don't you change the size of the orcs to 1 and take away their arms and legs. They'll drop all their weapons and your dwarves can go pick them up and hack up the unmoving orcs.

Well, i think that might require regenning a world, dunno. Speaking of the orcs, they went away pretty quick, only stood there 1 season, just before i got a huge migrant wave that pumped my fortress up to about 20 or so people, i've even got me a sheriff now!

Well, my fortress is doomed, only reason i saved i so i can mail it to my account and download it from my game computer later on to view in fortress visualizer, first siege was ok, but the second one, the human caravans were there, some hammer guards. Orc siege, orc wrestlers and orc hammerpeoples, one orc hammerlord, didnt care to remove the floor-line over the pit-moat because i thought my sheriff and their guards could deal with it, apparently not. Even if i survive, my fort is doomed to a horrible tantrum spiral.

I dunno about you but it sounds like your fort is just getting fun. Losing is Fun. Like honestly, watching your dwarves get slaughtered and heroically die defending their babies and going crazy and ripping each other's eyes out is pretty much the best part of dwarf fortress. If you don't like losing you might just want to stick with vanilla; additions like Dig Deeper and LL are generally for players who enjoy losing as the main game doesn't offer as much danger.

Yes, orcs bring much much Funtm to your fortress. Unless you have champion, or an impenatrable defense, you are dewmed.

You must laugh in the face of danger, even if you didnt get the joke.
