Well, now I know that cats don't have it.

Generally I find the number of mega/semi-mega beasts is directilly related to A) the cluster size and B) the all important caves. If you have alot of caves alot more mega beasts will spawn to live in the caves and if the cluster size is high you get more then one beast per cave. For instance if you have 50 caves and 10 have mega beast then you would normally have 10 mega-beasts but is you make all mega beasts come in groups of 10 the you get 10 in each cave with 10 caves making 100 mega-beasts that will protect each other.
