Azla and Iksti are lumped together not only because they live around the same time period (Shortly after Mindfang and her associates) but because they are unique; Azla relies on Iksti to keep him moral and Iksti depends on Azla to use his blood color to protect her from her insidious neighbors. For though Iksti is a teal-blood, she's gullible and easily trusting, not traits that advantage you around Legilacerators and their ilk.
Azla is a grand Alternian Count, and eventually graduates into the Imperial fleet as a Capitol ship captain. He pulls some strings to get Iksti as his First Mate, and together they fly about doing Alternian things like bombings, genocide, and cooking Grilled Cheese.
Iksti grows disillusioned with the slaughter. Azla has grown calloused to the warfare, but at Iksti's prdding, agrees to commit subversive activity against the Alternian Crown. For five years they revolt against the Empire, but they're captured and brought before the Empress. Azla and Iksti are respected for their acts of wanton violence, and are spared on one caveat: They're to be send exploring, alone, on the edge of the galaxy for the rest of their lives.
Trapped in a tiny ship, far beyond the edges of the galaxy, Azla and Iksti once again do the bidding of the empress. Several more years pass, and the two grow old together. Finally, the vast glub comes, wiping out half the ship. Azla is naturally very, very resistant to psychic energy, and this combined with the astronomical distance is enough to leave him with little more than a mammoth migrane and severe bleeding. Iksti is not so lucky, being struck Deaf and Blind. The rest of the crew, save a few select individuals, are killed or severely crippled. Trolls being trolls, they eject the cripples (except for Iksti) into space to conserve resources. They head to the nearest habitable planet and attempt to set up a new alternian culture.
They live there yet.
