Some of them are kinda stretching it by themselves, but in conjunction with others could work.

The twelve other trolls Karkat made are probably their parents. Trolls reproduce via incestuous slurry, the player trolls were created via ectobiology, and all trolls are adopted by lususes and know nothing about their parentage, so it's not at all clear what this actually means. I'm reminded of John's relationship with Nanna. She's John's paradox mother, and the mother of his adoptive father, but they never personally interact before her ashes fall into the Kernel.

Anyway, trolls not having parents would break the format. That's how they must be created for some arbitrary reason. You paradox clone some people, combine their DNA to create the players, and send everyone back in time. The parents aren't any less necessary just because they never meet their children again. It's needlessly complicated, but so is everything else in the game.

I would say that it's gonna be the characters we don't know about yet (FedoraFreak, Jade's grandson, etc?) but there are not enough of them to fill twelve new character slots.

And it doesn't necessarily have to be their parents. Aradia was a special case, so the game changed accordingly and mixed things around. Likewise the game could consider how they reproduce and try some other tactic, like their kids or something.
