Smelter Problem
« on: July 26, 2009, 12:33:33 pm »

So I have a noble requesting Trifle Pewter items and no Trifle Pewter bars.

According to the wiki the reaction requires 2 tin and 1 copper bars. I have plenty of both, plenty of charcoal, but the option to make trifle pewter bars is not showing up on the smelter.

Is there a limit to the number of reactions a smelter can display? I didn't figure there would be, as I can scroll down. Maybe there is a building setting that is preventing this?

There is no limit to the amount of reactions a smelter can do, except for the availability of materials and a dwarf to use it.

Can your dwarf reach the tin and copper? That's the only thing I can think of, maybe try a different smelter if it's still not working.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

Alternatively: Killing the noble is always an option, if things get bad with dwarven justice.

Just make it so the noble causes their own death, and no one gets punished.

You could try the job manager, too.

j->m->n->trifle bar
And then watch to see what the game is saying you don't have.

Well, it produced bars using a work order, I just couldn't set the job manually at the smelter.  ???

Dwarves do have access to the bars, they're sitting in stockpiles right outside the smelters and they're not forbidden. Oh well, problem solved anyway.

My first thought was:  Are you sure you have Tin and Copper bars, as opposed to tin and copper ore?
... But I swiftly figured you knew the difference, and I think you can smelt from ore or from bars, as separate tasks.

... Anyway.  I guess it doesn't matter now.
