In a similair vein, bullets and tragic encounters with wheat threshers are best avoided.

The mooore you knoooow.
Or to quote Rock'nRollRacin' : One should avoid mines!
It actually refers to landmines, but can easilly be adapted to DF. ;)

I'm not even sure what the "Liberal media" is.  In the UK, for instance, there's only one broadly liberal paper (the Guardian).  America has all sorts of conservative outlets, like Fox News.

And they have a link to this.

Why is he stumped?  Because the question makes absolutely no sense.

I'm not sure why he seemed so lost, since quite a few mutations could "increase the information" in the genome by adding base pairs, or activating sections of the genome that had been deactivated. This is something anybody in genetics 101, and certainly Richard Dawkins, would know.

It also looked a bit edited.  Or he may have just been trying to put together an answer for the question in a way that made sense.

Two things from that article

Must you really lie to try to satisfy your followers???

Your comment here implies that you think there is something wrong with lying.

But earlier...

You are liars! You didn’t “stump” him. He gave a brilliant and true answer!!!

We do not lie.

Man, that answer was poorly phrased.

probably he was in a tight spot as the question was obviously a setup for a creationism-trap.

like :
"ha, so you admit that random mutation is the only way evolution can add information and complexity!" "Our misunderstanding of chance proves you are wrong!"

The logical thing to do is
a)overanalyse the question to come up with an answer that does not lead to the closing of the trap.
Failing that
b) answer the fallacy that lies at the base of the 'trap''s reasoning.

One way is addition mutation, but such does hardly add functional traits.
Most new traits (which I assume they mean with information) arise from duplicate copies of a gene mutating.
A new gene or promotor does not come out of a single mutation event, obviously.

S like having multiple working drafts of a file on your drive and working on them in turn. Some may be redundant backups, scrap and useless, but some you will want to save, probably more than the single one you were going for.

also: A great writer is not always a great speaker. And he may have been tired. I know I'm not nearly as coherent when speaking as my writings. (not rantings)

BTW
What the FUCK does Dawson got to do with 2year old beer or Musli views on the substance.
I appologise for the reference to fornication (oh yeah!), but derailment into evolution or religion is pretty lame.

I suppose so, still it seems like (given that he obviously would have known a correct answer to the question) he could have given it and then let them make fools of themselves by demonstrating they didn't understand genetics.

It's true that would have gone right over their heads.

Let's talk about old food we've eaten!

Once I had grated Parmesan Cheese two years after its expiration date.

I have custard powder from the 80s in my cupboard. I took it from my parents house because they were afraid to eat it. It's still good, you know, I had some a while back.

I once at a piece of bread from 1799. If you're wondering how, it's because it became sentient and I shot it and here we are.

I think kettle corn tastes best stale. Or aged, if you prefer- I'm sure some bigot will argue that 'stale' implies that it has dried to the point of reducing palatability or appeal. To them I say, bollers! Live a little!

I once had some wine from 1763. It was disgusting, I threw it out and got some from 2004.
