Turn sent...the problem I've always had with the start of EFS games is how even if you wanted to start hostilities and invasions, it's virtually useless and impossible to wage.  I think we all saw that in the other game...ahem.  30 turns or so in is when the game starts to actually get interesting.

I know that mainiac has other opinion on this subject, but my stance is that the invasion in "the other game" was well thought out and able to succeed, had I not pulled out from Kish and instead continued to commit all my strenght towards conquering Li Halan.

The problem with that is that another player should have greater strength on their home planet than you can ship in, especially early on.  Since I never saw that game I don't know what the real situation was, but I do seem to remember you found some ships early on, which is pretty lucky and makes an invasion at least not impossible.  Although an al-Malik invasion of Kish is probably the most viable war out there due to the fact both Istakhr and Byzantium II only have 1 planet separating them from Kish.  But let's say you had to wage a War from 4 or 5 planets away and your fleet was equal strength...it would really take miraculous luck or a huge blunder on the other player's part for it to succeed.  Sure, you can invade outlying planets early on if you want, but your invasion of Kish is actually the earliest attempted invasion of a home planet I've ever seen in my EFS career.  Since anywhere from 10-20 turns in a player could have tech for space fighters/bombers, that would effectively end an invasion if they spent the resources to do so.

I shouldn't complain though, EFS would kind of suck if it was over in 20 turns.  I just wish we started with around 6 or 7 transports instead of 4.

I just found out something kinda nasty though. You know how Insanity takes 5% of your resources, rounded down?
It seems to take every 20th resource you collect, of all resources you produce. Or something to that effect. I have a mine that produces 17 of 17 metal but only 9 of 10 gems.
Arrgh.... If I knew that before hand I probably would not have taken it.

Ouch, I've never been a fan of insanity and so I've never taken it.  You could try splitting that area up into two mines to get 5 gems each and see if you could avoid the rounding...although I'm not going to pity Hawkwood for losing 1 gem...I wish I had a mine that produced 10 gems.

The few transports make the start interesting since you need to plan your every move with them. With more of them, we would be spreading like a plague.

I don't want to go into specifics until the game is over, but I knew something you don't know regarding the first war.  That hidden trump card was why I wasn't too worried.  It would have been a costly stalemate for both sides, but the stalemate was inevitable.

 I was most interested to see your latest communique. Apparently you feel that house Hazat should be paying tribute to Li Halan. For what, I ask? What exactly would motivate me to give away a precious piece of technology for no compensation? It was not easy to come by, you know. Perhaps you would do well to consider your future demands more carefully, but for now we most respectfully decline your request.

Surely some kind of fraudulent impostor has made this offer to your people, as I would never make an offer without roughly equal value in return.  My people may disdain the League, but we certainly support fair trade and vehemently oppose tribute, even if it was to the emperor himself.  I suggest you hang the criminals that have masqueraded as Li Halan envoys.
