(No really, there are a lot of people out there who actually believe this.)

A goddam shame people believe things can be sacred.

I will agree with this guy purely because I know some guy filled with piercings of every kitchen appliance and every inch of his body tattooed will take shock body modifications to a new, creepier level.

Well, to me, if you believe that one thing can be sacred, then you've got to accept the possibility that a lot of things can be sacred.

Of course. The possibility also exists that there could be different levels of sacredness. Of course, this treads on some religious ground here which would be better off not said. I just found the comment that some people value human life more is inherently bad rubbed we wrong.

But I will agree that only human lives/bodies/biology is sacred a bit odd.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Yeah, agreed. I don't see why human biology has to be sacred, and so I view the "humans are sacred but animals aren't" as a bit ridiculous. If you're going to make humans sacred you should make animals sacred as a general rule, IMO.

I think I should finally come out, and reveal who I am so I can comment on this.

As a Centaur, I take great offense to this to how Mr. Brownback refers to my half-horse-peoples in a negative light.

I'll be writing a very staunchly written letter to let them know of how displeased I am, and would like all future references to the proud Centaur race to be more sensitive and PC. We're Centaur-Americans, not just Centaurs.

The Merpeople will no doubt be up in arms as well, but they haven't figured out how to get reliable Cable tv or internet yet, so it'll be awhile before we hear their reaction.

He's gonna be dead before the Japanese figures out how to make a race of catgirls anyway.
But... They already made them!

They are not human animal hybrids. They are animals with some human genes, and it's hoped that biomaterials compatible with humans will be able to be procured from them.

And the stuff about zoonosis is just fearmongering.

So no human-animal hybrids...

but we can still have our 99.9% muscle super soldiers grown in test tubes?

(be happy you didn't post this on facepunch, this thread would have been a flame war in 10 minutes...)

I checked Something Awful and was damn surprised there wasn't a thread.  You'd think something this ridiculous would travel a little more, but it's gettin' nothin'.  Could it be that men of Sam Brownback's ilk are such public jokes that when he says something like this, people just shrug it off as so much noise?

So... The whole 'breeds genetically altered bacteria who can produce human proteins' stuff is now out of the question?

im pretty sure our scientists have already created a minor swine-human hybrid.

it is used to develop medecines...

still looks like a piggie though.

According to this bill, yep, bacteria, pigs, mice, and anything else with introduced human genomes are being thrown out with the werewolf bathwater.  C'mon crazy Republicans, you're supposed to be the guys who green-light the Umbrella Corporation supersoldier hybrids!
