Things bloat with gas as they rot, right? Whales are pretty elastic, and there's a lot of guts to rot.
Sometimes, if a dead whale is found a few days after it died, it's already swollen up to bursting point.

Indeed I have. To some effect I can see what they mean if they haunt illegal whale hunting operations, but I have no knowledge in whale hunting laws. I just oppose them because they get damn close to being pirates. Eco pirates but pirates nonetheless.

In Japan, it's legal to fish for whales or whatever. They keep hiding it as "Research" But really, the only research they are doing is how much money that can make selling that stuff.

As long as they fish in Japanese waters, then it's legal. Otherwise, it's illegal by international law.

Illegitimate you mean. Whaling in international waters, such as the waters off Antarctica where this show takes place, is illegal according to international treaties as Yanlin said. You can call them crazy protesters if you'd like, but it's dishonest to call the Japanese whalers legitimate.
