Automated Burrows
« on: June 26, 2009, 10:25:32 am »

Automatically create a few 'special' burrows for lazy players.

It would save a lot of work, if, in addition to the player defined burrows, there were a special subsection of automatically defined burrows.  I'm not thinking anything requiring a great deal of A.I. here, but stuff that should be obvious to the player and game, as well as being nigh-trivial to program.

Automated Burrow Ideas

Quarters : By-Dwarf... Quarters means only rooms that the dwarf itself owns
Royal Quarters : Useful for guards...  Means rooms that the highest ranking dwarf owns
Layer X : Define a Burrow on each layer.
Above Ground : Define a Burrow as 'Above Ground'
Under Ground : Define a Burrow as 'Under Ground'

My idea would be to have the option to place a pre-formed designation pattern you made for carious rooms.

I know there are utilities to automatically build rooms for dwarves. Perhaps someone could upgrade theirs to do a whole fortress. I suspect it could also automatically set workshops to be built. Of course, having as a utility kind of takes away the point of having it for beginners.

Maybe I wasn't clear...

New code allows you to designate areas of the fortress as burrows, which have an in-code definition.  I'm suggesting that there are some default burrows areas pre-defined.

Automatically generating "underground" and "aboveground" would probably be most useful and easiest to code.
