Please.  Be realistic. ( ;D).

It's vermin.  All you can do with tame vermin is put it in a zoo (to give most of your dwarfs bad thoughts), or put the cage in a room if someone, inexplicably, actually likes roaches (as seen in their profile).  "For their scaly wings", or something.

Or, if your dwarfs get really hungry, it's a box lunch.

I don't think they'll eat tame vermin.

If you go to the animal list you can set it for adoption. I've yet to find a dwarf that will adopt any vermin (even those cute turtles I catch) but it is supposedly possible

not if they're tame? quite possible.

I've seen dwarfs who like turtles, and lizards, and firesnakes, so some vermin are likable, at least.  That's all it takes.

I think it's "possible", just rare.

I had a weaver adopt a blue jay once. He would walk around aimlessly all day as thread piled up canceling job: looking for pet. There were no spots on the map that dwarfs could not access, so we guessed it must be flying around somewhere in z-level some odd +10. Even when I drafted him he would still spam thousands of those messages about not being able to find his damn bird. I would assign the bird to a cage and all the other dwarfs would complain about not being able to find the bird. Eventually he VERY VERY SLOWLY made his way to his station whereupon the siege operator "witnessed death"...

Then a new peasant took up dabbling weaving  :D

Set the tame large roach for adoption, and maybe a dwarf who likes it will adopt it.

Just make sure you don't tame a large number of them, because then you'll have lots of large roaches and no one to adopt them, because dwarves will only adopt three vermin pets, and it's doubtful you'll get many dwarves who like large roaches.

Some time ago I had a dwarf with a pet roach (I think). Wasn't 40d-- It was one of my first forts (3d era) and if was fooling around with catching and taming small animals. (At the time I never gave much thought to the thoughts it would give other dwarves.)
