time to kill the tree-huggers...
« on: June 07, 2009, 03:59:49 pm »

so i'm finally tired of their crap caravan, with their crap items (other than the tame giant creatures).

their time has come.

so... easiest way to start hacking em? i do not know how to kill something that is friendly. i looked up elves on wiki, nothing about it. i mean, i want to slaughter their people before they make it to the moat.

how do you attack the elves?

Yes, magma. Or drowning, or dwarven atom smashers

So there's no way to make a friendly become a hostile?

Build your trade depot on an elevated floor with one thing holding it up, connected by a bridge.
Elves come in, bridge goes up, support goes down, free elf pancakes for everyone.

For added irony, slay them with ballistae.  After years of refusing to cut down trees, trees will cut them down.

Drowning them in magma while under an atom smasher?

Kill their diplomat.

He can be attracted by cutting down lots and lots of wood and storing it as logs.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

i've cut down the entire 6x6 map 3 times over. no diplomat. no biggie. i basically made my trade depot out of adamantite, built obsidian walls around it with 1 side being a 5x1 stockpile for obsidian stone. when the elves came, i removed stockpile, built the last wall, dumped lava on them.

the best thing is, i don't have to worry about my dwarves scrambling in once i drop the wall to collect discarded goods. let's see what happens next spring, eh?

Then you turn it into obsidian from the top via magma.
Just to be sure.

You need (I think) the baron to get the diplomat to show up.

Once he does, killing him (or letting him be killed, say by goblins or skelks or carp) is almost 100% assure the elves will attack you eventually. Note that elf sieges are pathetic, elves are even more of a pushover then goblins thanks to negative damblock and garbage wooden equipment.

If you just want to kill the caravans, easiest way is to just rewall the depot in after they park on it, and let them starve. There are, of course, more fun and complicated ways, though unfortunately no way to directly order your dwarves to attack them (maybe next version).

I prefer water to drown them, it doesn't destroy the cages, elves sometimes bring animals, only thing they bring that's useful, unless you have a shortage on cloth...

Sell them a wooden barrel. They should siege soon thereafter.
