I was killed unfairly by the last bandit of a raiding party, a lasher. He hits me in the hand, I drop my steel battle axe, as I bend down to pick it up he hits me in the head. Typical, right? I try to come up with something funny, but it happens to everyone and thus is not funny.

They use a simple contact area vs. weight vs. velocity modifier. Basically, the velocity modifier is very high, to simulate the whip cracking, while the weight and contact area are both quite low. Hence, in DF at least, tiny contact area + high velocity modifier = damage a very small area very badly. Knives are very dangerous in DF because they're sharp, plus they have a small contact area with a decent level of power behind them, so it concentrates at the tip.

Anywho. The way I always tried to deal with lashers in adventure mode was pelting rocks at them until I managed to break their hand.

Modded in giant bees by taking bee raws, removing vermin tag, and changing size to ~bronze colossus. Still outstripped by very-low agility humans, but funny. They can't sting though, limiting to wrestling.

Went into arena mode, made a bee, made a human, bee was my mortal enemy.

Heheheh. I made cat-sized bees once. Have yet to actually encounter them in play.

Went to kill some bandits. After killing a hammerdorf, I grabbed his hammer. A bandit runs up, and in order to stop him from getting too close, I chuck the hammer at him. Miraculously, it hits him IN THE HEAD. It didn't kill him, but he, like, fell over and dropped his weapons from nervous damage. Either way, it was so AWESOME I had to draw a picture. That adventurer is still alive, I retired him when he lost his grasping ability.
