The government is supposed to be small, though. It's inherent in the political system.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Well, Budget Hero got an update. And after doing all possible austerity and tax increases, um...

Debt is reduced from 75.5% of GDP to 22.4% of GDP, and the size of government shrunk from 25.9% of GDP to 18.2% of GDP.

I don't know whether to think Budget Hero is improving in accuracy or be more depressed about how likely this budget problem is going to get solved. I don't know how I am ever going to get the "victory" 2070+ date.

Raise taxes all the way and cut everything and look what happens!

But Zrk2, it's only up to 2046, which seems to be the absolute maximum. In previous runs, before this update, it was possible for the budget to bust in 2070+, which seems to indicate that you have done enough to postpone the budget problem indefinitely. Even in the Ron Paul runs, I could get the government to bust in 2065, which is a far better improvement than 2046.

The Budget Bust is the period when (health care+social security+interest) is greater than (tax revenues), and when that happens, the budget becomes unsustainable. It does not matter how much debt you have, if the budget becomes unsustainable, you lose.

I'm wondering if the main problem was that the effects of repealing the Bush tax cuts was nerfed. Before, the Bush tax cuts were responsible for a lot of money to be made. Now, it only saves 3 years. I also am suspicious of the fact that there are few tax cards in the policy prescription pile, meaning the game does not allow you to raise taxes high enough as you could before.

I also ignores the fact that government spending has an effect on the state of the economy.  That leads to 180 degrees of difference in what the appropriate policy is in our current situation.

I raised as many taxes as I could and cut everything. How do I make it last longer than that?

You can't. I was just complaining about the game not letting you last longer, not you personally. Sorry for the confusion. :(

Of course, if you actually rose all taxes and cut all spending, the economy would tank and tax revenue would drop off significantly.
