Animals will still trample it to hell. Of course I use Somnia so I wake up to trampled fields if I don't fence because it simulates the time rather than "SET TIME DAY" when you sleep

I love the Super Hostile series. My favorite so far has been Spellbound Caverns (SH#10). I love the whole vast underground complex thing, the linear-branching map style, and the unique regions. It's not terribly difficult once you get started (I converted the starting ruins into a functional castle, and built a skyway nodal rail network to get around the caverns quickly) but it's great fun to explore and build a working base in an unusual (subterranean) environment. I think it'd be a lot of fun to try multiplayer, but the map is too darned big for most servers to run it, it would seem.

Why are we arguing about optimization when MoM is using aquiducts to irrigate the field instead of buckets? Methinks a point was missed.

I did my farms for my Let's Play under a lake

It seems the MCforums have seen quite a few users speak ill of MC post-1.7.3. Mostly the terrain gen.

I hate to say but.. I'm inclined to agree. 1.7.3 and before.. the mapgen made some interesting topographical features.
Sure, 1.8 is prettier but every seed is the same now.

This might just be Nostalgia Filter taking effect on me, but Minecraft mapgen was way cooler before biomes existed.

I dont know if it hasn't been updated, but they do have mods that will alter mapgen to the way it was before.

I have to agree, all the maps seem the same now. I also missed the brightness of pre-biomecolors.

Sure, MC is more "realistic" now, but everything looks the same. And everything's so fracking compact. Forests and jungle biomes are so claustrophic.
Also, "persistant animals" means animals don't despawn or respawn. Means the world can be.. desolate most of the time.

Don't get me wrong. 1.8+ is nice for a DIFFERENT experience, but it gets boring, lonely, and predictable. I miss the massive overhangs, the jutting spires of stone/dirt poking out of the ground.
