Think somewhat like that, but done with a completely screwed up camera angle, instead of the actual blocks being moved.

Apparently the only way around it is to change the system time.  Highly inappropriate thing to put in.

actually, you could do some neat mods with that. It could uniformly distort the terrain to look like you're on a sphere, or IN a sphere.

Updating won't delete my world or anything will it? Also I have scouting a LOT of the surrounding area and am wondering if I will find things like cocoa beans in previously visited cave systems.

If you've been modding, updating could be bad. For instance, mods that add new blocks (IndustrialCraft) will have references to those block IDs removed - you'll end up with empty factories, not to mention random air pockets wherever new ores were buried. Not to mention that you won't be able to re-mod until all the mods are updated, which could take a while. 


If you haven't been modding, it's totally safe.

I'm tempted to start a world with the moving-blocks thing enabled, so that I can turn it off in a few weeks and see what crazy-ass structures I managed to build.

I now have Beta 1.4, but where are the wolves in my taiga? I typed in Wolf into the seed, but WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY? GAMERKNIGHT WANTS TO HUNT PIGS AND COWWS WITH WOLVES!!! What am I doing wrong?

Your taiga has too many tigers for wolves to spawn.

 Also wolves spawn in forests, so get near some trees.
