Hungry: two things.

 * First off, you probably want to switch to smooth shading for your creature. On the editing panel (F9), below the materials switch, are two buttons: "Set Smooth" and "Set Solid". You should be using the former any time you have smooth curves in your mesh, and the latter any time you have sharp discontinuities (for example, at the corner of a room).

* Secondly, you can quickly make a backup of your project by selecting the object(s), and then hitting these keys:

D <enter> m 2 <enter>

This creates a duplicate of the object, and then moves it to layer 2. You can hit 2 to switch to layer 2 (and 1 to switch to layer 1, et cetera) to find the object again. Of course, this won't protect you from your file getting damaged, but it does make it easy to restore to a previous state before you embark on a drastic modification. It's also handy for when you want to make several "building blocks" for a complicated scene. For example, here's my layer 2 from a project that got a bit out of hand...

I put this together today as an experiment in unshaded materials.

It'll be better once you remove the fluttering abomination.

Otherwise, it looks very nice.

Wow... cool/evil...
I can't quite tell, is the head facing the camera too?
And how'd you get that glowing effect on the bottom orb? Looks cool.

@Derakon: 0_o Interesting... I like. Never tinkered with shadeless mats. before. Might have to try now!

I'm gonna hafta get back into Blender (:) short attention span, i guess) and add something more of my own.

Working on a new spaceship. Also, how do I make a GIF image of a blender animation?

(I finished the -moving- tank i've been working on for 11 months!)

Depends on the program you use. Many image manipulation programs can make animated GIFs, but they all work differently. Blender itself has no facility to make them, though.

How about just using blender and the GIMP?

How about just using blender and the GIMP?

Here's how i do it: After blender's written out all the frames, open gimp, hit File->Open Layers and open them all, make sure the layers're in the right order(!), optionally optimize(in Filters->Animation), make sure it's in "indexed" mode(Image->Mode->Indexed...), then save as gif. It'll ask about flattening or making an animation.

Sorry if I sound uppity, but most of the people I know IRL would have to be told in greater detail than that...

BTW, I always have blender output PNG. Odds are you'll lose quality when you convert to gif... you can look at the campfire i posted a page or 2 ago, as an example.

Mostly unrelated, but a friend would like to have a nice-looking feather to use for a logo for this site (apparently, they're discussing the idea here), anyone have one/interested in making one? I'd give it a shot, but i wouldn't know where to begin...

Sweet, a 3d art thread.

I'll post a couple of my favorite works. What I do have are decent IMO but I rarely go back to fix mistakes / add detail. If you visit M&B Forum you may have seen the sword already...

I apologize that they're just grey, I'm still only a dabbling texturer.
