An Obsidian farm...
« on: April 13, 2009, 10:59:39 pm »

Could some one suggest a place for an obsidian farm please?
Also, I don't know how to pump it up z levels.

First, put it somewhere in between the cave river and vent, or anywhere where it's convenient.
Second, use screw pumps.

I know how to use a screw pump, but I don't know how you can pump it upwards, as in toward the surface.

It's possible to pump lava with a screw pump operator, but I wouldn't recommend it-it's MUCH more advisable to go with machine power, and pretty much required if you have to go up multiple levels.

ok. thanks. I will start to make a verticle pump, as soon as I can get enough wind mills.

Use water wheels instead, they're more efficient, not subject to wind speed, and you can make massive quantities of them. I, personally, channel a water tunnel under my fort using the water from the river, 4 wide, dumping into the chasm, with grates at either end, and then fill it with water wheels. I've had as many as 130 water wheels, which may sound a bit ridiculous, but trust me, I needed all of them.

Thanks. Will I need to make a water wheel for every z level I do?

You can use the wiki to figure out how many waterwheels or windmills you'll need.
