As for the fish drowning, they might have managed to get into an area below a waterfall where the water was piling up so they managed to get onto the banks of the river.  If the water then went down, they would drown.

Then there was the time my fortress was invaded by a severely wounded Titan that just kinda stumbled around in front of the fortress complaining about it's knee until someone shot at it a few times.

If you've ever had an uninjured titan, you'll know it doesn't fare much better (beaten to death by macedwarf in my case).  Same went for my dragon, who managed to kill a war dog and a bull (well, he injured them and then they hit traps).  Then he got killed by the same macedwarf (who, by the way, was explicitly ignoring my orders to stay inside).

If you've ever been near a chasm in adventure mode, you'll know you get a helluva lot of spam about creatures falling down said chasm.  It sounded like fun, but I got bored and gave up searching for it.

ok, just to clarify here, Fish can drown by being pulled backwards. Basically it forces their gills open and overstaturates them with water. But to do it you really have to grab them and just haul their ass backward pretty fast and for a few minutes usually. Easier to just stab'em

I guess that basically drowns them because they need to filter water to breathe when all your really doing is forcing the same water into their system.

Either that or it causes it to filter so fast they cannot get what they need from it.
