No, Toady One is notoriously vague on long-term plans. All I can say is that what you're hoping for will very likely happen eventually.

yeah eventually DF is hopefully going to be exactly like what you described. The hope is for persistence of player made actions across the world. Its Toady's high-score system. i do know you can send your world back into the age of myth by unleashing demons.

That's impossible to tell. In fact, I am not even sure that something like this will be possible to do in the game...at least I've never seen any related informations, but that means nothing of course.

If you dam a stream in fortress mode, it has a small effect in adventure mode but it won't change the surrounding tiles. I wonder, if i were to dam every single stream leading to a specific ocean that is not connected to the map edge and stick arround long enough for all the water to evaporate along the entire lenght, would it be possible to drain an ocean completely? Pocketworld with 2 tile oceans, here i come.

i've heard stories of people using spirits of fire in adventure mode and sleeping at the bottom of an ocean and evaporating it all away.
i never got that far because of 1 frame per minute.
