... I wrote my narrative essay assignment about my fort's first siege. :P
I wrote a narrative essay about a baron who gets deported by the king for not producing enough iron socks.

I was recently reading a zombie novel, and one of the characters (an Army Sgt.) flashed back to a death he had seen.  the author described the dead man as being on fire, and his intestines were on fire, too.  I thought, "No, silly author! It should be '!!Man!!' and '!!Guts!!'

Aside form that, tim Curran's Resurrection is an artifact level zombie novel in my opinion.  It's encircled with bands of great characterization and menaces with spikes of gruesome.

I stayed up all night reading this entire thread and reading about geology on wikipedia instead of going to bed before my 6 hour train journey to see my partner. Can't sleep on the train either as I have about 5 changes.

Urist McTired cancels sleep: screamed at by angry girlfriend for being too knackered for coitus

On a related point whenever I'm on a train and have a window seat I find myself looking for good embark spots.

I primarily spend my time looking for cover in case of an emission...

Aye. This is one of the best gaming forums out there.  You get an occasional trolling attempt now and then, but it gets squashed pretty quickly.

Back on topic, because of Dwarf Fortress, I sometimes think like this:

Nyxalinth has been fine lately. She has to work a job she dislikes tomorrow.  She had a fight with her partner recently. She was comforted by a pet.  She drank a coke Zero recently...'

Because of Dwarf Fortress, I'm learning to mod Dwarf Fortress, which is causing me to learn and relearn a great many other things about world history/culture/mythology, animals, vegetables, minerals, *FUN*...gi, how all of those things all interact with each other, and how to hand process a great many things.

Not to mention, ofcourse I've learned some more about coding.

It's also been a strong inspiration towards getting more involved in gardening and related skills, which has been a great source of exercise, and ofcourse healthy foods.

My wife even thinks the dwarfs in DF are hilarious, and has encouraged me to play, which has done wonders for my emotional and relationship health.

Don't let anyone tell you that DF isn't healthy or educational!

Your wife is a great person.
Whenever I make a campfire, I always think "Why am I using matches? I should just use magma and a lignite bin!".

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Dwarven Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

I'm planning to mod in fossils.  Am not sure whether to treat them as stone, or as gems (irl, small fossils are often made into jewelry, but with larger ones this would be silly).

This is a fossilized t.rex bone bed.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality, blah blah...
