No number of riflemen shooting at a tank with their rifles can bring down a Panzer. Just not going to happen. Company of Heroes respected reality at least that much. Unlike, say Command and Conquer.

...  I'm not sure where I fall on this, but :

Don't conflate attack animation with the attack being done.  Infantrymen have a number of antitank strategies, from explosives to tread damagers to shooting in through the firing ports to stuffing the cannon to clogging the intakes to setting up terrain hazards.  Allowing infantrymen to do a small amount of damage to tanks is a form of abstracting these strategies out.

Wow, this matchmaking is terrible.

It immediately jumps up to like 15 or 16 possible players, then dwindles down to none, without ever actually adding any of these players.

Got around to playing it.

I don't like it.  It feels wrong, somehow.  Like seeing an old friend you haven't seen in years, and finding that they've changed, and the new friend might still be cool, but it's not the friend you used to have.

That's how I feel.

Also, waaaaaay too much blood.  Every swing from a Hive Tyrant spills more blood than a human would contain if they were simply a balloon made of skin.

What happened to the cover system? It was supposed to be even more awesome then in CoH but i can't see any of it ingame. Everything sorta vanishes when either a termi walks past it or somebody pokes it with a shuriken catapult or a bolter. And the even more limited unit selection makes me sad. Not even 'stealers for the nids?

Edit/update: lost my first online match involving 2 rank 1s(on my team) vs a rank 9 and 2 7s on the other. For all of us it was the first time online. Whoever designed that matchmaking system should be fired. It took the bloody thing 25 minutes to find 2 other players and put us up against a premade team we had 0 chance of winning against.

I sorta ignored the cover system. The way it works is that it's most effective before any super units come out and after that, your only sources of cover would be craters.

Then again, I mostly play Tyranid. Cover really isn't something I'm concerned about.

Remember that this game is meant to be played like... 10 seconds into the game = heavy combat. So I would assume that cover would be important then. I'm waiting for the rest of my friends to get back from uni so we can lan party this.

Like I said, I really doubt this would be fun if you don't have friends that play games.

How does the so-called "base building" part of DoW2 works? I miss the concept of building huge awesome cities in a battlezone.  :'(

There's no base building. Period. I kinda wish I had more stuff to build.

The most we can get are power generators, turrets, and some additional support structure. Even then, they are limited to your commander.

They weren't joking when they said they wanted to focus on the combat...

I think I'll give it another try later.  I didn't really give it much of a chance.

You could play with a live person. Like me. We could own the AI and have fun doing so.

Well... maybe not now. My left hand is in terrible amounts of pain... I think I pulled a muscle trying to get Satch Boogie on expert.

Hm.  I didn't much like the original.  This sounds different but I'm not really interested in buying something to get the demo...

When will we get another Homeworld?

Yeah. But in Company of Heroes, you can actually command infantry to throw genades/tread bomb at the tanks as separate attacks from their simple rifle fire. In addition, machine gunners can concentrate fire on vulnerable points on a tank or other vehicle to do a bit of damage to them.

You want infantry damaging tanks, try Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2.  NEVER LET INFANTRY GET CLOSE!

You don't have to buy Soulstorm now.
The beta is available on Steam for free.

Then I got nothing...

I have to run it on lower-end settings, but as long as you don't overtax yourself, it runs fine.

Also, the AI is annoying.

When I fought the Marines as the Tyranids in that Jungle map, the enemy spawned a  total of like three squads over the entire game, and mostly just used his hero and the occasional dreadnought.

I had two Carnifexes ready to tear people apart, but there were no people to tear apart.
