Cth: Dude. Stop playing on easy or normal. Besides, the game has also changed from DoW 1 in that army sizes are really, really small this time around. No massive hordes.

I'm not really sure why it's called Dawn of War 2 since there's so little in common, gameplay-wise.

DEVIL'S ADVOCATE!!!
Don't conflate attack animation with the attack being done.  Infantrymen have a number of antitank strategies, from explosives to tread damagers to shooting in through the firing ports to stuffing the cannon to clogging the intakes to setting up terrain hazards.  Allowing infantrymen to do a small amount of damage to tanks is a form of abstracting these strategies out.

How about the fact that Warhammer40K is set in the future? And hence, in the future, infantrymen can easily blow up entire tanks with a pistol?

...Wait, wait...no...no....Waaghs? No Horde Orcs? Only Elite Special Operations Orcs?

And so we get into another discussion about how the AI was a little retarded in both games...

I don't mind the way it's played out so far, space marines particularly. Very inline with fluff, you don't send packs of 9 semi-legendary warrior monks into combat without incurring some very heavy costs.

Still, feels like a retextured CoH with melee. And less cover. Ohwell, I'll probably buy it for singleplayer anyway.

Servant: The orcs and Tyranid are fairly numerous. But that's like saying that McD portions are fairly large.

Basically, every squad in a Space Marine force would have around 3 guys, 4 with a leader. Tyranid have 8 in a squad. Orcs have 6.

Usually, you'd only see maybe 3-4 squads going around per team at a time. The pop cap is quite small though, so you probably won't see any more than 10 squads per team, including vehicles, which only come in groups of 1.

Anyone plan to play this game on a competitive level? Perhaps I will, at least until I can put my hands on Elemental... :D

It can probably be modded later for more units. I havn't been able to play it enough totell how the newer combat system handles, as DOW1 had a rather lame engine in that regard. I WOULD player more if vista didn't strangle my poor integrated chipset, as I have no clue how to configure it. A friend at school has a laptop with vista, and an integrated chipset less than half as powerful (GMA965 vs n7050), yet it runs crysis at medium, and this thing barely runs any 3d games. It stutters on source games :|

Hm. Let me download the demo, but again, if it is anything like CC2, then I'm not buying it.

Not that CC2 is a bad game, it's actually an awesome game. But I already have CC2.

The fluff states that there are 1000 marines per chapter. Sending in 90 Marines to a battlefield seems alright.

Except for the smurfs, they are too awesome to be bound by their own rules and are estimated at about 250.000 people who can't look over their shoulders or raise their arms more then 45 degrees. Ofcourse, GW never gives an exact number so they can always raise it next time they release even more fanwank with the word 'codex' written on it in crayon. Guess my opinion on 5th ed marines.

Something i do find highly annoying is that it's virtualy impossible to defend an area with a few well set up HB's or similar, there's always some jump troops that outrange them and then wreck the entire area before any of the squads can re-adjust their heavy guns. You'd say that 4 HB devs and 2 plasma cannon devs would be able to defeat a sing jump squad...

Asehujiko: I don't think the game was designed with defense in mind.

Who sends out marines anyway? In DOW1 I always teched straight up to vehicles ;D.

Also Darkone, I feel your pain. I don't care what it costs me, I am never, ever getting an integrated graphics card again. 128 mb or not, its crap. I am intrigued as to your friend's solution however.

I have an nvidia 6150, if you were wondering.

Asehujiko: One of the reasons DOW1 was so popular was that it tried to nerf 'turtling', aka building defenses so much that the enemy cannot break them, so that you can wear them down. Many people hated the idea of 'turtling', so that's why turrets are so weak.

Said smurfs in the offical material may actually be raided and destroyed by the Inquisition, who fear that the Smurfs are becoming too powerful and 'out of control'.

Actually, I thought he was talking about the Black Crusaders.

The Ultramarines get scot-off since their gene templates are used to create new Space Marines Chapters that are based off the Ultramarines.
