Tell that to the legendary wrestler king who stripped himself naked, went out into the woods, and spent the next three years strangling to death whole goblin sieges by himself while fuled only be the occasional vermin and the blood of his enemies.

There'd be new "berzerk" type moods on top of the suicidal, depressed and KILL ones.
They'd act as though they had various tags they dont really have, perhaps?
Like suddenly thinking they are [AQUATIC] or [AMPHIBIOUS] or [FLIER] etc...

Did they have drugs he asks XD. Yes they had thought they were mostly plants like Datura, Brugmansia, fly agaric, Hemp, Anamirta cocculus, hojas de la pastora, Opium Poppys, almost any nightshade plant and so on.

Your average 14th century peasant's drug of choice was plain old booze distilled by himself. They didn't run around smoking dandelions hoping to get a buzz like retarded kids these days, life was hard

I could see the human merchant nobles enjoying opium by any other name and dwarves with a preference for tobacco smoking it during breaks whenever available using an ornamental pipe but for your average race, booze should be the recreational material of choice. The game shouldn't turn into a Slaaneshi orgy

"They didn't run around smoking dandelions hoping to get a buzz like retarded kids these days, life was hard"

The hell they didn't! It just didn't work, when they did. Besides, the liquor they distilled themselves, from cat piss and toadstools and vinegar and whatever else they added to their rotgut, and then drank from a lead cup, probably caused a lot worse hallucinations than most of what we have now.

I do too, mickel. I was thinking that exactly.

I'd even add some trippy features for the drugs to interact with, like a bunch of weird statues (Maybe Ironman corpses, surrounding a bronze colossus? So they kind of look like they're worshipping it?) Maybe some fire/water elements, and uneven floors, or a room that's covered in chains, or bones, or leather, or mirrors, from floor to ceiling. Or just a big mushroom forest.

I'd like to see pipe smoking as it seems like something I'd expect a dwarf or a human to enjoy. Oh and remember it "wasn't" unhealthy back then, or so they said.

You say recreational drugs, not all drug use is strictly recreational. What about drugs used in rituals? Its certainly not unheard of for a tribal society to use certain vision inducing plants to get them closer to their gods. I think it would be a nice addition to religion in the future.

Oh and certain drugs used as medication also makes sense if Toady decides to flesh out medication in that way, after all legal medication and illegal drugs are pretty much the same thing in that when consumed they alter biological function.

As I recall, there's some sort of chemical (and growing process) that American tobacco farmers add/do to tobacco plants, that's supposed to make them "taste better", and as I understand it, it may be that (the chemical, the process, or a combination of the two), that actually makes tobacco unhealthy, or atleast considerably more unhealthy than it otherwise would be.

Also, smoking tobacco from a waterpipe (hookah) is supposed to sharply reduce the amount of tobacco toxins, as is heating the tobacco beyond a certain temperature.

Not that I'm encouraging anyone to smoke, but I do encourage taking the time to do some research into healthy/more healthy methods, if you're going to do it anyway. If a few hours of research can give you 20 more years of life (in which to smoke), then it might be worth your time?

And, for that matter, our dwarfs might enjoy the occasional hookah. That'd be a fun item to use glass for.

It's because Dwarves like all forms of ingestable inebriation, needles are too weak to get through their skin, they are used to inhaling smoke/miasma ( the mine, the forge, the arena, the ... ) .

And the hookah is a multiperson apparatus that can be filled with booze and weed.
