"Was"? I don't think you can really STOP being a mathematician.  ;D

Also, although it may not be as accurate as it could be, the level of detail certainly inspires me to research certain topics further and learn more on my own.

I should perhaps also mention that I've learned more about mineralogy (and metallurgy, for that matter) from DF than I have from anything since an old MECC mining game on the Apple\\e in elementary school. Thanks Toady!
DF probably isn't as accurate as a game designed to be educational might be, though...  Toady was a mathematician, not a geologist.

I wonder if ten years from now geology professors are going to have to "un-teach" errors that all their students learned from DF...

Sorry, no. DF isn't that popular, you'd need Sims level consumption to get that.

You can sure as hell stop being one that researches and publishes papers.

Like how all layers of stone never go up or down in the ground xD

Not yet at least.  Once we get the 2d isomorphic interface overhaul though...

You mean like Oregon Trail where you actually get to kill a whole fortress?

Or Midnight Rescue where a remote control can vapourise floating electified cut electical cords for no reason?

Educational games arn't really holding up very high standards of realism here.

Educational games arn't really holding up very high standards of realism here.

An individual educational game may be quite fanciful as a whole, but still needs to be realistic in what it claims to teach.  So an arithmetic teaching game can be excused for, say, misteaching biology by having the player interact with a talking-animal mascot, so long as the result is indeed "2" when the player is asked "1 + 1".

Would it be possible to make a reaction that, instead of requiring X amount of item(s), you could instead make the reaction require a certain value in dwarfbucks?

For example, let's say you wanted a magic shop workshop in your mod that allowed the player to make almost anything out of anything, but not have it have ridiculous trade-offs or require a specific item(s). So, you could buy a wafer of adamantine for 1500☼ worth of stuff, or it could be set to require 9000000000☼ worth of stuff, or any value.

Not without some extremely tedious workarounds, no.

What would be less of a workaround is stockpile and hauling overhaul, along with the ability to destroy/dismantle items to get most/some of the ingredients back (for non-metal items), or a lesser ingredient (Stone Craft turns into Rocks when 'destroyed').
With potential parameters to haul certain quality items of an item type (something like Stone Craft -> Anything below EXCEPTION) to a certain stockpile, or even to auto-dump/destroy/dismantle.

Because guaranteeing an item quality seems gamebreaking, as everyone would just assign the workshop to make artifacts or something.

But stockpile/hauling overhauling is a bit off, last I assumed.

Mostly, yeah.  But we ARE getting burrows in the next version, which will help a lot.

If aquifers still behave as they do now, all it takes is one damp stone to FLOOD THE ENTIRE UNDERGROUND.

actually, that is rather accurate.  aquifers are several SQUARE MILES in size, and all that water can come sliding outward though a b reach in the wall that holds the aquifer in place.

Yeah, although I hope a simple hack that basically  makes it so when you have TAKE FROM STOCKPILE option on some stockpiles, the pathfinding goes
ITEM->STOCKPILE 2
instead of
ITEM->STOCKPILE1-> ITEM IN STOCKPILE 1->STOCKPILE2

What does DF claim to teach again? ;)

I understand the whole microline > Blargblablah in Dwarven argument,
but I'd still prefer that the English translation end up with something less scientific and more mythical.

Like "skystone" instead of Microline.
Olivine is completely fine (olives are green)
Orthoclase > Golem Ore
Titanium > Titanstone
And the basics are fine too.
(Bronze, Iron, Copper, etcetera)

That would be sweet.
